が開催されました。

Rice is one of the most important crop in the world. The concept of shoot ideotype in rice has partly been successful to use for breeding high-yielding cultivars. Can the ideotype of root system, on the other hand, contribute for yield? The purpose of the symposium is provide a forum for accelerating our understanding of rice root system. Invited speakers will review important information about structure and function of root system with reference to genetic and ecological aspects, point out key deficiencies in our knowledge, and suggest view- points leading us to new perspective.
17:00 - 17:05
Shigenori Morita: Opening Remarks and Introduction to the Symposium

Craig A. Beyrouty:
University of Arkansas, USA
Soil chemist, crop ecologist. Studies environmental
and management influences on root growth and nutrient
uptake of field grown crops. Root dynamics of lowland
irrigated rice is the present research topic.
Jiro Harada:
Saga University, Japan
Crop botanist and ecologist. Role of root systems for
the growth and yield of rice plants is one of main interests.
How to control the development of root systems is present
research topic.
Jin Chul Shin:
National Crop Experimental Station, Korea
Crop physiologist, modeller. Experience of rice field experiments
for 16 years. Interesting present topic is the influence of
rooting pattern on seedling establishment in direct seeded rice.
Len J. Wade:
International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines
Agronomist/crop physiologist. 22 years experience in rainfed
agricultural research. Interests include root traits for drought
resistance, GxE interaction and selection, nutrient x water
interaction, establishment and seedling vigour, and crop simulation
and risk analysis.
