The root morphology development of hybrid rice (Teyou 63) with 6-12 T/hm2 grain yield in vary soil layer were measured with the method of origin soil state column in 1996. And its relationship with grain yield was analyzed. The results showed as follow.
The root morphological development of super high yielding rice
With the deepening of soil layer, the root dry weight of hybrid rice (Teyou 63) at ripe stage showed decreased with exponential equation (Fig.1): Y =192.2362 e - 0.1300x, r = 0.9962**. The root distributed in 0-5 cm soil layer appeared developing best. With the grain yield increasing, the root dry weight distributed in 0-5 cm soil layer increased to the same or over to that distributed under 5 cm soil layer.
The relationship of root in top layer or low layer to grain yield
Among 6-12 T/hm2 yield level, the grain yield showed significantly positive relation with root dry weight in top layer or low layer. Among which, the grain yield showed most significantly relation to the root dry weight in 0-5 cm soil layer, r =0.9893**. While, for the root distributed below 5 cm soil layer, the signification showed decreased. But the root dry weight in top layer showed significantly positive relation with that in low layer (Table 1). That indicates the top layer root emerging at bud differentiation stage is affected by low layer root.
T/R
The ratio of rice crown to root (T/R) showed increasing with the grain yield increasing : Y = 4.8769+0.1301x, r =0.8001**. Which means the growth rate of root is lower than that of rice crown. From which, it can be concluded that with the root activity increasing the grain yield increased. Which can compensates the relative lower growth ratio of root.
